One Thing With Michael Chanley

We recently released our free ebook called The Future of Children’s Ministry.  Over 20 influential KidMin leaders contributed their thoughts to help create this thought provoking resource.

We’re continuing the conversation with these leaders and getting a little more personal about their own ministries, asking them this question:

Aside from your relationship with God, what is the ONE THING that is
most important to you as you lead in Children’s Ministry?”

I asked them to answer in a few sentences, and we’re posting those answers here in this series called “One Thing”. (You can see all of the posts here.)

Today’s response comes from Michael Chanley.  Here is Michael’s response to our question:

My wife. At the center of a healthy home/family is a healthy marriage. Next to my relationship with God, my relationship with my wife is my number one priority. She is my best friend and if I fail to love her I fail to lead my children. If I fail to love her I fail to love my children.

I would encourage anyone in ministry to take time to make sure their relationship with their spouse is the most important.
Here are a few ideas, none of them original, but all of them important:

  • make date night a priority to stay connected one on one with your spouse

  • continue to woo your spouse by discovering and speaking their love language

  • sacrifice yourself daily to God’s will in your life… love your spouse more than you love yourself… read Ephesians 5 and memorize vs. 21.

Be sure to follow Michael on Twitter and check out his creation, CMConnect.

We’ll have new “One Thing” posts every few days, so stay tuned! In the meantime . . .

What do you think of Michael’s response and
how would you answer that question?
