Working Together: Children's and Student Ministries

This post I’m happy to say isn’t the picture of Brookwood Church from my perspective. I also think that Student Ministry and Children’s Ministry are beginning to work more and more together. But it’s still an issue and it’s because we don’t take the time to see the gifts that the other’s bring to the table. Here’s what I observe.

Children’s Ministry – things I’ve seen or experienced

  • older with older kids
  • volunteer gurus
  • planners
  • people developers
  • organizers
  • delegators

Student Ministry – things I’ve seen or experienced

  • younger with younger kids
  • experience gurus
  • communicators
  • technologically savvy
  • evangelists

These aren’t all true, but they are what I see more often than not. Both are lists of strengths not weaknesses. (unless you see them that way)

One day we will figure out if we work hand in hand, our ministries would grow. But someone has to start. Let it be you.

What’s keeping us from joining hands to tackle the mission of discipling families?
