Worship Music is a key part of our Children’s Ministry on Sunday mornings. Our goal is to encourage kids to recognize the value of corporate worship and engage willingly. We also desire for it to be a time they look forward to and enjoy.
1. CHOOSING MUSIC
The time we invest in selecting appropriate music will pay dividends on Sunday. We begin with our goal in mind.
Questions we ask:
What do we desire from this particular song? Scripture Memory…Release Energy…Reflect…Reinforce the Bible Point…Have Fun?
What mood do we want to set?
Who is our target audience?
How many songs will we use and in what position in the service?
Evaluation:
Lyrics – What do we desire to communicate with each song? Do our kids understand the words used in each song? Is this something the entire family would enjoy in the car?
Style – Variety is the key. Select music that appeals to a variety of musical preferences. Too often we let our own personal preferences influence our choices.
LEADERSHIP
Regardless of musical ability we believe everyone can learn to lead worship with kids. Heart, passion and confidence will attract kids even better than ability. Approach each opportunity with prayer and allow God to work through you.
Kids
Incorporate older kids as a part of the worship team. Set standards, coach and encourage the team.
Adults
Let adult leaders know that their participation is crucial. We coach our adults to participate in all of our songs…even the silliest songs. The adults set the standard for kids in their small group.
Rehearsal
Leading worship is not an area that can be left to the last minute. Rehearsal both as an individual and as a team is critical. As the Worship Leader it is essential to KNOW the music and the lyrics well.
