Saddleback Church Cancels Services to Serve Neighbors

Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, Calif. will cancel all its worship services this upcoming weekend to encourage congregants to serve in the community. According to The Christian Post, Warren has asked members to take “at least a half-day on Saturday or Sunday” to perform “chosen acts of kindness” in their neighborhoods. Calling the event the “Good Neighbor Weekend,” leaders of the 20,000-member church told CP, “Saddleback has always been a loving and caring church that gives and gives, so this weekend will continue our commitment to love our neighbors.” Congregants can choose to perform their own acts of brotherly love, or they can take advantage of one of more than 25 service opportunities organized by the church itself, including visitations, caring for the homeless, helping military families, etc. The church hopes to log at least 50,000 combined individual hours of service within the area.
