That is undoubtedly one of my more obvious lead ins.
I have written before, and still firmly believe, that doubt is not a bad thing or a sign of spiritual weakness. Doubt is something God has used in my life to drive me to further study, investigation, and meditation of his word, his world, and his character. As one author said, “Any belief worth having must survive doubt.”
However, I feel it necessary to make a distinction between doubt and skepticism. It has become the vogue to distrust all authority and to have an aversion to anything that predates our own generation. C.S. Lewis called this “chronological snobbery.” Such an attitude is as unhelpful as it is ungodly.
Skepticism leads only to uncertainty and depair. Redeemed doubt will lead to truth.
