3 Reasons I Love the Next Generation

It’s been on my heart this past year to connect with young godly leaders on social media. There are so many amazing young people out there that are sold out for Christ and have so much wisdom to share with Christians of all ages.

The Bible says, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” (1 Timothy 4:12) And this is what I see in the next generation of Christians in America – they are already setting an example in the way they are living, and their love and commitment to the Lord, and in the way they are leading other young people towards Christ.

1. They are not jaded.

One of the things that I’m noticing about so many young Christians is that they are not jaded like adults. Most of them haven’t built defenses around their heart and they are less cutting with others. They have soft and pliable hearts for God to use for his good purposes.

Jesus taught us to value young people, and even children. He said, “I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.” (Matthew 18:3) It is important that we learn from young people how to “throw off the sin that so easily entagles” and forgive like we’ve never been hurt and approach God with a child-like trust.

2. They trust God.

I’ve been so encouraged in the past few weeks by the faith of some of these young Christians. They have a huge trust in God and his timing for their lives and his faithfulness. We can get so bogged down by our work schedules and our daily living that we lose sight of simple trust in who God is, and how he cares for us so much. When this happens, it’s good to recalibrate and watch and learn from young people who are full of faith and trust in God. They have great things to teach us about God’s faithfulness, as so many older Christians do for young people as well.

3. There are no limits to how God can use them.

So many young Christians are hungry for God to use them, and are praying that they are the generation that God uses to bring revival to America. In fact, many of the revivals through history have begun with young people. My friend Ryan says, “The next generation can change the world, if we will allow God to take the lead.” These young friends are not just saying empty prayers – they have a deep rootedness in God’s Word and the Church, and they are already effectively touching the lives of millions through social media. I believe the best is yet to come, and I encourage the Church everywhere to stand with them, pray for them, and agree with them for all the good things God has in store.
