Mohler: Evolution Can't Mix With Christianity
8/31/10
President of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary Albert Mohler declared in his blog this week that "the theory of evolution is incompatible with the gospel of Jesus Christ even as it is in direct conflict with any faithful reading of the Scriptures." The blog post as reported in the Associated Baptist Press was in response to a Huffington Post article saying Mohler falsely criticized Charles Darwin during an address Mohler delivered at a June conference hosted by Ligonier Ministries. The Associated Baptist Press reported that in his speech, Mohler affirmed that the universe is no more than several thousand years old and was created in six 24-hour days, as is recorded in Genesis. Specifically the author of the Huffington Post article, Karl Giberson of the pro-science-and-faith BioLogos Foundation, was angered over Mohler's statement that evolution was "invented to prop up Darwin's worldview"; Giberson even went so far as to say Mohler "does not seem to care about the truth..." In response, Mohler conceded to one statement but stood by the rest of his address, saying Giberson's views "show how much doctrine Christianity has to surrender in order to accommodate itself to evolution." The discussion prompted heated debate in the "Comments" section of the Associated Baptist Press story.
