Church Leaders & On-the-Job Stress
8/31/10
Gallup polls released a new report this week that 74% of U.S. workers are at least somewhat dissatisfied with the level of on-the-job stress they experience. The trend in overall job satisfaction has not changed much since 2007 (48%) but has increased appreciably since 2001 (39%). Workers say areas of their jobs which have shown improvement over the last decade include physical safety at work, recognition for accomplishments, the amount of work required of employees, vacation time, and opportunities for promotion. However, workers appear to be no more satisfied with their job security, their retirement plans, health insurance benefits, or job stress levels as in the past. Stress-levels consistently rank at the bottom in Gallup's annual worker satisfaction ratings, trading off with pay levels for last place.
How would you say the levels of on-the-job stress in the ministry compare with those employed in other areas and industries? Is it more or less stressful to work in a church? What do you think?
