Piper Calls Japan Disaster "Apocalyptic"

The Christian Post featured a blog post by well-known preaching pastor for Bethlehem Baptist Church John Piper, who said the horrific scene in Japan has brought him to his knees in prayer for God’s compassion and mercy. He first acknowledged God’s sovereignty over all creation, “the shaking of the earth, the rising of the sea, and the raging of the waves.” Piper also prayed in repentance of sin, saying we “are not more deserving of firm ground than our fellowmen in Japan” and petitioning God for mercy not only for the struggling and hurting in Japan but for any “sinful creature” brought to Him by the disaster. Thousands are still reported missing and 600 people have been killed as a result of the 8.9-magnitude earthquake and resulting 23-foot tsunami that ravaged the coast of northeast Japan last week. The disaster has damaged at least three nuclear reactors in the country, and entire trains remain unaccounted for.
