NYC Court Issues Eviction Restraining Order—for One Church
Churches in New York City were preparing to hold worship services thinking a restraining order against eviction applied to them.
According to the Christian Post, churches in New York City were preparing to hold services this weekend on public school property because of an eviction restraining order issued by a federal court. About 50 churches applied for permits after the restraining order was issued. Later the churches found out the order only applies to one church—Bronx Household of Faith, the church that originally brought the suit against the city. All other permits were then revoked.
A bill currently in the New York legislature would make it legal for churches to rent space in public schools for worship, but it has yet to be voted on by the state assembly.
