Poll: Contraception Coverage & Faith-Based Organizations

Results from a New York Times/CBS poll as reported by The Christian Post showed Americans agree that President Obama’s contraceptive coverage mandate should be optional for faith-based organizations. Fifty-seven percent of those polled agreed that the opt-out should be made available to religious affiliated institutions such as hospitals and universities and those that are self-insured.

The Department of Health and Human Services announced the mandate in January, saying that all employers who provided health insurance for employees had to cover contraception and sterilization for all women. Included in the mandate were drugs known to act after fertilization, causing chemical abortions.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has called the mandate an “unprecedented attack” on American religious liberty.
