"God Made a Farmer" Chrysler Ad a Favorite Among Super Bowl Viewers

A commercial for Ram trucks during the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XLVII February 3 celebrating farmers turned out to be a fan favorite. It featured Christian broadcaster Paul Harvey’s “God Made a Farmer” tribute from 1978 and touching images of hard-working farmers and their families.

“And on the 8th day God looked down on His planned paradise and said, ‘I need a caretaker!’ So, God made a farmer,” Harvey said during the commercial. “God said I need somebody to get up before dawn and milk cows and work all day in the fields, milk cows again, eat supper and then go to town and stay past midnight at a meeting of the school board. So, God made a farmer.”

The Christian Post quoted several prominent Christians who tweeted praises about the ad. Ed Stetzer, LifeWay Research president, said it was the best commercial, “and nobody was half-dressed.” He later tweeted that “after all is said and done with the Super Bowl, I just want to be a farmer.” Eric Metaxas, wanted to know “what Dodge/Ram executive greenlit that Paul Harvey ad…he deserves America’s undying gratitude.” Mars Hill pastor Mark Driscoll called it “the best Super Bowl commercial by a mile.” And Geoff Surratt said the commercial “redeemed the night.”
