Rob Bell Follows Up "Love Wins" With New Book

Former Mars Hill Bible Church pastor Rob Bell has followed up his controversial book, Love Wins, with a new one titled What We Talk About When We Talk About God, aiming to do for God “what he did for heaven and hell in Love Wins,” says the publisher, HarperOne.

The book description on the publisher’s website says that, in the new book, Bell “shows how traditional ideas have grown stale and dysfunctional and reveals a new path for how to return vitality and vibrancy to how we understand God.” Bell himself wrote in the book, “I’ve written this book because there’s a growing sense that when it comes to God, we’re at the end of one era and the start of another, an entire mode of understanding and talking about God is dying as something new is being birthed.” Bell also wrote on his website that the book would “challenge everything you think you know about God.”

Bell’s Love Wins inspired deep criticism from a number of prominent Christian leaders, including Francis Chan and Mark Galli, and although the book was a best-seller, fallout from the book ultimately led to his exit from his pastoral post at Mars Hill Bible Church in Grand Rapids, Mich. Bell said at the time that he did not intend to create tension with Love Wins, but rather he was focused on “what’s true and where is the life and where is the heart and what inspires. If that happens to stire up a few things, that’s something I accept.”

The new book will be released on March 12, 2013. Watch the book trailer here.
