Starring Hollywood superstar Nicolas Cage, the film will get the "blockbuster" treatment producers felt it deserved the first time around.
Nicolas Cage and Ashley Tisdale will star in the upcoming Left Behind film reboot by Stoney Lake Entertainment and Paul Lalonde, producer and distributor of the original Left Behind series that went straight to video. The movie poster features Cage standing alone in a ripped suit in an apocalyptic setting. LaLonde told The Christian Post that he intends to give the film the blockbuster treatment he felt it deserved the first time around.
“… I’ve spent 24 years producing Christian-themed TV, films and documentaries that were made specifically for a Christian audience,” wrote LaLonde in an email. “Preaching to the choir so to speak. It has always been my goal to produce a big-budget version of Left Behind that would appeal to a wider audience. The resources to do this exist now where they didn’t back in 2000.”
Apparently Tim LaHaye, the author of the Left Behind series of 16 books, does not approve of the script for the new film, written by LaLonde and John Patus. He even told CP “it’s probably the worst script I’ve ever read, and I’ve read scores of them.”
“The plot line is nothing like the book. The only thing they retain are the names of the people, and maybe places,” LaHaye added. “There is no redemptive value to this movie.”
The film is scheduled for release in 2014. See more about the upcoming film on its official website.
