Gay Activists Protest Greg Laurie as National Day of Prayer Chair

According to The Christian Posthomosexual activist groups have called for the White House to rescind its invitation to Greg Laurie to become National Day of Prayer Honorary Chairman. The Human Rights Campaign, an LGBT organization, and Outserve-SLDN, which serves homosexuals active serving in the military, allege that Laurie has a history of speaking out against homosexual Americans.

Dr. Sharon Groves, director of HRC’s Religion & Faith Program, called Laurie’s message “out of step with what the majority of people of faith across this country believe.”

“In greater numbers than ever before, people of faith are feeling compelled to speak up and organize for equality — because of their faith,” she added.

Laurie founded Harvest Crusades and serves as lead pastor at Harvest churches in Riverside and Orange County. As Chairman of the National Day of Prayer event, he is expected to participate in a prayer breakfast and at the Cannon House Office Building on Capitol Hill, with Dr. James and Shirley Dobson, Congressman Robert Aderholt, Vonette Bright, Pat Boone, Congressman Frank Wolf, and others.

Earlier this year, protests from homosexual activists compelled evangelical pastor and speaker Louie Giglio to withdraw from giving the benediction at Obama’s inauguration ceremony. Giglio explained that he didn’t want to encourage the debate when the country is already deeply divided on other issues.
