Majority of Americans Believe God Guided Human Creation

A new poll by YouGov.com shows that 62 percent of Americans believe God played at least some role in the creation of humans, with 37 percent of them believing that God “created humans in their present form within the last ten thousand years.” In contrast, 21 percent of Americans believe that humans evolved from less advanced life forms over millions of years and God did not directly guide the process.

The number of those who believe in a God-less evolution has increased by 8 percent in the past 10 years; only 13 percent of Americans believed it in 2004. This point of view is most prominent among young adults (ages 18–29); 31 percent of them believe in evolution without the influence of God.

The poll results also showed that slightly more Americans favor creationism being taught in schools (40 percent) than oppose it (32 percent).
