Ohio Bus Driver Shot in the Chest Saved by Copy of the Bible

A 49-year-old bus driver in Dayton, Ohio, is blessed to be alive today after three local gang members tried to ambush him when his bus broke down at about 5:20 a.m. Monday morning. Rickey Wagoner said he was protected from the shooting when the bullets fired at his chest became lodged in a copy of the Bible in his front shirt pocket.

“I’ve been hit in the leg,” Wagoner told an emergency dispatcher, the Dayton Daily News reported. “My chest feels like I’ve been hit with a sledgehammer.” But local police say Wagoner will survive the attack, and even the responding police sergeant agreed that “there was obviously some kind of intervention involved in this incident, because he probably should not be here.”

Wagoner was stabbed in the left arm as he struggled to gain control of the pistol out of one of the suspect’s hand. Wagoner then took a pen from his pocket and stabbed one of the suspects in the leg. The three suspects then fled the scene.
