I write with great concern on my heart.
I’m concerned that for many, Jesus, the wonder of heaven, the King of kings, has simply been reduced to a life coach that aids us in our agendas.
A life coach gives us good advice on how to navigate the rough waters of life.
A life coach gives us super-cool motivational talks.
A life coach gives good advice, which you can get from a new-age guru, or high school student.
Jesus as a life coach does not produce a joyous response of worship.
And what we worship, we become like.
What was the Apostles’ Paul’s view of Jesus?
Jesus was not a life coach to Paul.
In Paul’s theology, to see Jesus is to see God in His totality. And God is worthy of worship because He alone is the Great Treasure.
Paul was occupied with Jesus. The grace of Jesus so captured him that he unceasingly occupied his mind with Jesus:
In Colossians chapter 1, which has 29 verses, Paul refers to Jesus 30 times.
In Ephesians chapter 1, which has 23 verses, Paul refers to Jesus 20 times.
In Philippians chapter 1, which has 30 verses, Paul refers to Jesus 20 times.
In summary, Paul’s goal in life was to “proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present every man complete in Christ.” Colossians 1:28
A life coach can only give advice on what you can do.
Jesus gives you Good News about what He has done and what He wants to do through you.
