How to Discover Your Leadership Blind Spots (the Hard Way)

Here are three ways you can help your truth-teller:

1. Be humble and receptive.

You have to let your truth-teller know you respect their role, and you must always be willing to listen. If not, the truth-teller will be of no use to you.

2. Be invested and active.

You must spend regular time with your truth-teller. That means no missed meetings. No excuses. You have to play an active role in making the relationship beneficial.

3. Be practical and thoughtful.

Really put some time and thought into choosing your truth-teller. Be strategic. Typically, you want an individual of the same gender, a little older than you, with experience and wisdom in the issues you face on a daily basis.

Great leaders know how to ask for help. Even the sharpest minds can’t do it alone.

Identify a truth-teller who will help you recognize your blind spots. Give them your trust and meet with them often. Apply their instruction, and you will strengthen and grow as a leader.

“When we are really honest with ourselves, we must admit our lives are all that really belong to us. So it is how we use our lives that determines the kind of men we are.” -Cesar Chavez
