Phil Robertson of "Duck Dynasty" Defends His Comments on Homosexuality

Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson gave an Easter Sunday sermon at a church in West Monroe, La., in which he refused to back down from his beliefs about homosexuality that got him suspended from the show last year. The video of Robertson speaking at Whites Ferry Road Church in his hometown has since gone viral.

“They were mad at me,” he told the congregation. “You say, ‘Why’d they get mad at you?’ ‘Cause instead of acknowledging their sin, like you had better do, they railed against me for giving them the truth about their sins. Don’t deceive yourselves.” He then proceeded to paraphrase 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 regarding who will not inherit the kingdom of God.

“That list of sins covered me in my past life,” said Robertson to the congregation. “We’ve all been there. The reason we’re here today is to remind us of the gospel that’s preached.”

In the interview last year with GQ, Robertson listed homosexuality amid a description of sinful and illogical behavior prevalent in society today and was somewhat graphic in his description of desirable sex. His comments were labeled homophobic and inappropriate by many but also prompted a social media outburst supporting him.
