How to Launch Your Best Fall Bible Study Ever

Summer is coming to a close. While I’ll miss nibbling on fresh berries and summer fruit on my porch, I can’t wait to savor yummy Pumpkin Spice Lattes as the crisp weather rolls in.

This fall, churches around the country are launching Bible studies and small groups. Maybe you are, too.

Along with the excitement that comes with fall schedules, new friends, and fresh curriculum come a few hurdles.

Maybe you’re asking yourself: How do I make this small group different than the rest? How do I spice up my Bible study? How do I ensure that group numbers don’t dwindle like last year?

Here are 4 tips to launch the best fall Bible study ever:

1. Use Fresh Curriculum or New Voices. Maybe your small group has used the same Bible study teacher again and again. Maybe you need to spice it up by using a topical study or one based on a book on the Bible. Instead of reading a book, change things up by adding a DVD teaching segment. Consider increasing or decreasing the homework load each week. Many authors and publishers offer samples to watch and read through before purchasing.

2. Give a Welcome Gift. As participants sign up for your small group, offer a gift that ties into the study you’re using. It doesn’t have to be expensive, but a simple reminder to share excitement and joy.

Gloria from Oregon is leading a group of women through Wonderstruck 7-Session DVD Bible Study. At their first meeting, she was super creative and decided to give each participant a baggie of pixie dust (glitter) as a reminder that God is busting at the seams to display His power, glory, and might in their lives.

Take a look at the study you’re leading and consider a themed creative gift you can offer to participants.

3. Adopt an Organization as a Group. Support a local organization mission, outreach, or school during your time together. Ask what the organization’s needs are, both physical needs and how you can be praying. Commit to praying for this organization every time you meet. Schedule a time as a group and give your time, serve, and display the wonder of God to others.

4. Invite the Teacher into Your Small Group. Consider reaching out to the Bible study teacher and asking them to Skype into your group or write a personal note. We have a policy that If your Bible study group purchases 25 or more of any book and workbook combination from our site (including WonderstruckScouting the DivineThe Sacred Echo, or The Organic God), Margaret will connect via a Skype phone call into one of your group meetings.

So grab friends, neighbors, and co-workers, and dive in deep this fall. Ask God to wow and astound you with Himself like never before. Live expectant to the ways God will reveal Himself to you and your small group during the best fall Bible study ever.
