Paris Waiters and the Power of Incentive

One thing that’s never changed about Paris: waiters don’t overwhelm you with friendliness.  No, let me put it better – for the most part, they are rude and could care less about your dining experience.  I’m sure the reasons are complex, but for my money, the biggest reason is that the tip is already included.  It’s fixed, so they get nothing for extra performance.  As a result, they do their job, and whether you like it or not is up to you.   In your organization, you probably can’t “tip” your team, but what could you do to give them more incentive?  Give them a piece of the profits?  Give them time off?  Give them a gift?  Be creative.  How could you reward over the top work at your office?

Value great work.  It’s human nature to raise your performance level when we have the opportunity to be rewarded for it.  Let your team know you care, and give them a reason to raise the bar on how well they do their job.

Whatever you do, don’t let them get into the vibe of a Paris waiter.   Any readers been here and know what I’m talking about?
