Networking Tip: Connect with Number 2

Most great leaders have other brilliant minds on their team that help them implement ideas.

These are often the people behind the scenes who are the real catalysts for making things come to life. They understand what it takes to move vision into reality. They recognize the infrastructure and systems needed to actualize concepts. They are a wealth of wisdom and often have a clearer grasp of the overall picture than even the primary leader.

I’ve learned over the years that connecting with these individuals, who are sometimes called “Number 2″ in charge, are incredibly valuable to becoming a better leader and person. I think that sometimes people, to their detriment, overlook this incredible opportunity to connect with leading practitioners by solely looking to spend time with the primary leader of a company or organization.

Not only are these leaders generally more accessible, they really do enjoy helping others along in becoming better leaders and thinkers. Quite honestly, I usually get more out of the privilege of spending time with these leaders than I do with the primary leader.

If you haven’t done so already, why not connect with the ones who really make ideas come to life?
